Sweets are the single most requested review category we receive, and for good reason: gelatin has historically made the confectionery aisle difficult to navigate.

How we tested

Nine products, tasted blind by four people, scored on flavour, chew, aroma and aftertaste. Prices were normalised per 100g so multipacks did not distort value scores.

What stood out

  • Pectin sweets delivered the cleanest fruit flavour
  • Beef gelatin gave the most satisfying resistance when chewed
  • Coatings mattered: sugar-sanded sweets aged better in the pack

Final thoughts

Buy on texture preference rather than price. Once certification is confirmed, the deciding factor is simply how you like a sweet to chew.

Pros

  • Certification clearly printed on pack
  • Strong fruit flavours across the board
  • Good value in multipacks

Cons

  • Texture varies widely between brands
  • A few products were noticeably over-sweetened
